Partington Central Academy is dedicated to extending opportunities for learning at every chance. With the development of ICT and the internet as a whole, the opportunities to extend learning into the home are on the increase. We are keen to take advantage of this to the benefit of our pupils.
Please browse the Reading and Phonics informaton below, ‘PPS Cookbook’ and ‘Online Learning’ pages to find out more about the ways that Partington Central Academy Pupils and parents can engage with the school from home.
Reading is a life long learning tool and the development of the love of reading is something which we are constantly reviewing our provision to achieve. The school’s home reading books incorporate a variety of different published schemes to enable a wide selection of type and genre. These books are carefully banded in to progressive sets. Children are encouraged to read every night at home and books will then be swapped according to their specific classes timetable.
Alongside this, Guided Reading takes place in classes daily. This includes teacher or teaching assistant led group reading, comprehension and other reading for meaning activities. This approach allows us to not only assess childrens reading abilities but also gives us a clear indication of each child’s understanding of the texts read.
Our school Library is currently under construction, with the hope that it will be fully functioning by September.
Phonics is taught daily in 20-30 minute slots. The groups are streamed according to the individuals phonetical understanding. The streaming allows us to teach in smaller focused groups providing children with a more individualised learning plan.
Currently school uses Phonic Play as our main resource as this follows the DfE Letters & Sounds publication. We also incorporate the ‘Jolly Phonics’ actions to deliver a multi sensory approach. If you require additional information on how we teach phonics please feel free to attend our yearly parent meeting or speak to Mrs Wright.
