Smoke Free Gates here at Partington Central Academy!

Home / News / Smoke Free Gates here at Partington Central Academy!
  • Two-thirds of smokers start before the age of 18
  • Every hour, one child begins to smoke in Greater Manchester
  • When children breathe in smoke from tobacco, they are at a higher risk of developing health conditions such as Asthma, chest infections, lung cancer or heart disease
  • If parents smoke, their children are three times more likely to smoke when they are an adult
  • Children breathe faster due to their developing lungs, meaning that when children breathe they take in a lot more second hand smoke than adults
  • Younger children are more likely to be exposed to second hand smoke than older children
  • Millions children in the UK are exposed to second hand smoke outside their homes
  • Children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds generally have more exposure to second hand smoke
  • There is believed to be an impact upon children’s ability to read and reason even with small levels of exposure to second hand smoke

Following the success of The Firs Primary School Smoke Free Project last year Partington Central Academy have agreed to work with Trafford Council to help promote smoke-free spaces for our children.

We are waiting for signage to encourage adults to not smoke next to or near the school gates but for now can we ask parents not to smoke next to or near the school gates with immediate effect please.

Thank you.
