Accelerated reading is a program that lets a teacher track your child’s reading more closely to help them progress in their reading. Children are reading a normal if not better quality book just like books they enjoy and would buy in a shop! Nothing has changed, you read with your child 3 times a week as normal and let us know that they have read 3x week as normal. The TA/Teacher will check their reading as normal – they change their book as normal. The only difference is then the children complete a quiz. It’s fun and the children really enjoy it just like they would read a book in guided reading and complete a comprehension. By doing this we can see how well they have read the book. Parents have no responsibility other than listening to their child read as they always have done. You don’t need to touch a computer or an ipad or a phone.  We do this at school. All we ask is for you to read with your children regularly and when they have finished a book write ‘my child has finished their book my child needs a quiz in the diary’.

Thank you.
